Photography has been a passion of mine. My series From Here to Where was exhibited at the Houston FotoFest 2014 Participating Spaces:
The interaction between wandering and wondering is at the core of the series From Here to Where. The images depict children in outdoor spaces evocative of the boundless opportunity embodied in American landscape paintings, while also presenting the overwhelming, supernatural, and sometimes ominous power that nature and the unexplored hold.
In these environments, the children encounter unanticipated elements. Though some of these objects’ very existence imply a prior history, it is the young subjects who imbue the surroundings with a story, not the surroundings that impose a narrative on the children.
It is of this spirit of discovery and in this space of invention that viewer resides. Through the lens of a childlike explorer, a sense of wonder of the unknown is reborn.
I had the chance to meet Cartier Bresson years ago. His idea of capturing the decisive moment stayed with me throughout my travels.
Some of the images were exhibited in various series across the nation in group and solo shows along with select publications.
